Don't be a renegade

Many of us know the meaning of words like raincoat, overcoat, waistcoat and petticoat. Now lets know about turncoat !

A turncoat is a person who leaves one political party, religious group etc,. to join another party or group that has different views.

Do you know the origin of the expression?

those days people living in cold countries used to wear lengthy overcoats to protect them from biting chillness of weather. The coat was made of  very thick material, and people would prefer to wash it only when there was good sunlight to make it dry.

Such an overcoat had two colours - each for inside and outside - and was stitched in such a manner that the wearer could use it in both ways. Since people could not often wash it, they would turn the coat inside out and outside in and used it.

So, whenever any person renounces his present ideals or beliefs, and join another group that has different principles, we can say he is a turncoat.

Renegade = Deserter of party or principles.
